Laboratoire Nutergia in Gelle, Aveyron: When Efficiency meets Architecture
The new laboratory, located in the heart of Aveyron, is born from the family venture lead by Nutergia’s founder, and still CEO, Claude Lagarde, Pharmacist-Biologist, then by his son, Antoine Lagarde, current General Manager of the French branch. This is also through deep local roots that the company developed its activity these last years, showing up two digits growth year after year for 20 years, recruiting more than 250 people, and the development, manufacturing and distribution of food supplements. Nutergia finally developed its own Research & Development laboratory. The “Made in France” and working with local partners is part of the history and DNA of the company.
In 2014, the company based out of Capdenac near Rodez plans on creating a new business unit nearby, in Gelle. For the management of the company, their desire is to work on an architectural design project, kind of rare in term of investment.
The CAUE of Aveyron sets up a competition for architects. The laureates are architects Casadepax and CL Architecture, team completed by the engineering offices OCD and Getude. Construction will begin in November 2016.
Certified 14001, and promoting for the last 5 years to an environmental approach, the laboratory Nutergia didn’t want to dive into complicated norms to develop for its industry type, but chose a real concept of efficiency via the production of renewable energies, quality materials and if possible recycled materials, and local partners. For example, the zinc cladding is a 100% recyclable product supplied by a plant located 10kms away from the location. Wood, wood wool, concrete and green roof – mainly with plain soil for a better thermal gain – was installed by a local landscape company.
Regarding the natural lighting and ventilation of the buildings, the engineering focused on high performance roofing solutions. Frederic Legrux, works manager for the company SARL Delbès working on the project, offered Bluetek as supplier for its high-tech solutions but also for its competences in term of support. “We really feel and experience a deep technical support from the manufacturer towards the company in charge of the installation” confirms Thomas Hugonnenc, Works Manager for Nutergia.
On a surface of approximatively 40,000 m2, the thermal study resulted in the installation of 47 thermally broken profiles skylights for the warehouse buildings, to reconcile fire safety, insulation, natural lighting but also cooling systems via a possible electric ventilation. 23 Bluesteel Fix skylights, 22 Bluesteel RPT Elec vents and 2 Bluesteel RPT Pneu+Accès have been installed on the roof. The devices are, for the most part, equipped with Screen-Dome sun-breakers to prevent the direct sun rays and greenhouse effects during the summer, but letting the heat coming in the building during winter thanks to an optimized orientation. Controls are operated through a Hyperion solution, ensuring an independent area for smoke extraction and ventilation.
The offices’ roof is equipped with 25 Lightube Home light tubes of a 330mm diameter, including 46 straight aluminum pipes (with silver treatment) of a length of 600mm throughout the roof. This configuration gives a 98% of natural lighting reflection, and in this geographic area, each tube is the equivalent of 2 x 60W light bulbs turned on between 8am and 6pm. The ceiling light finishing complies with the fire reglementation requirements while giving a natural aesthetics to the installation.
Globally, this project is a successful project in terms of durable and responsible building. The end of the construction is planned for September 2018. 70 employees currently work at the Capdenac Gare location. In 6 months/1 year, more than 100 employees will work spread out between the 2 locations. It is a great success for all teams’ members included in the project, and which Bluetek is proud to be a member.
